Looking Back – 1989 Land Rover Discovery Launch
In 1989 Land Rover launched the very first Land Rover Discovery in the Milehouse Bus Depot in Plymouth, the 3 door 7 seat vehicle was the first family SUV of its kind. Ensuring the launch was a triumph Land Rover brought 85 Land Rover Discoveries, these went on to be known as the ‘G WACs’ due to their registration plate. Being so close to Plymouth and having connections with Milehouse Bus Depot our Managing Director at the time, Gordon Walke, saw an opportunity. Land Rover reached out to us and expressed how they thought they would benefit from having Demon Pressure Washers on hire throughout the launch to keep their vehicles looking their best. The launch took place for 6 weeks in the city with the Discovery’s being taken for various demonstrations with dealers and returning to the depot to be cleaned by Demon pressure washers before their next outing.
The machines that we sent to represent us were one of the first versions of our Tempest hot wash pressure washers that we still make to this day. We are pleased to say they did a great job and ended up being purchased by Land Rover for use on their future launches.
And on return from the demonstration our Managing Director couldn’t resist purchasing one of the fine vehicles that Land Rover had launched (in Demon red of course).
