Working Towards Carbon Neutral
The transition to carbon neutral will not be an easy one. The last two years we have completed a scope 1 & 2 carbon footprint assessment of our business and have returned results of 62% carbon neutral from the period April 2020 to March 2021 and 72% carbon neutral from April 2021 to March 2022. This is a great starting point for us but we still have work to do to get us to carbon zero as a business.
Luckily for us back in 2010 we installed a rain water harvesting system that currently lowers our mains water usage by 80% having a massive impact on the amount of mains resources that we consume. In the same year we also had solar panels installed on our factory roof that contribute 25% of the electricity that we consume back to the national grid each year.
We are always making a conscious effort to shred any waste paper so that we can reuse this in the packaging of our parts orders and reuse any cardboard boxes that we receive from suppliers for, again, sending spare parts in and protecting our machines when they are palletised. Pallets are similarly an item that we reuse when we receive them from our customers so that none go to waste, we also, in busy periods, collect and use pallets from companies that do not have the opportunity to reuse them.
However there is always more that can and must be achieved to transition closer to carbon neutral. We have recently finished upgrading all of the lighting in our office and factory to LED lighting to save on the amount of electricity that we consume. Moving forward we hope that we can continue to make small changes in our working environment that will keep us moving in the right direction.
Not only are we making changes to our direct carbon impact in our workplace, we are also continuously developing our battery range of pressure washers so that our customers have more options on the industrial cleaning market than just the typical fossil fuel powered machines.
